SKF bearings are made in Sweden and China. SKF is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of rolling bearings, plain bearings and linear products, as well as related services. SKF is a global company with more than 90 manufacturing locations, sales offices, service centers and distributors in approximately 50 countries around the world.

Åkers, Sweden

SKF has been producing bearings in Åkers, Sweden, since 1907. The plant is one of the company’s largest manufacturing locations globally, with more than 2,000 employees.

The factory has a long history. It was founded by Sven Wingquist as a blacksmith shop in 1876. In 1896, it became part of SKF and began manufacturing ball bearings for locomotives and vehicles. In 1907, the first production of spherical roller bearings started at Åkers Verkstad AB (AVAB).

Today, SKF’s bearing plant produces all types of rolling bearings: plain bearings (ball, roller and cylindrical), radial ball bearings, self-aligning ball bearings and spherical roller bearings. With such an extensive product range, AVAB has become one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of rolling bearings.

Bari, Italy

SKF Bearing Co. Inc., the world’s largest bearing manufacturer, is based in Bari, Italy. SKF’s North American headquarters are located in Newark, New Jersey.

The company was founded in 1907 by Sven Wingquist, who had previously worked for the British firm Brown & Sharpe. The company’s name was derived from the founder’s initials and the town of his birth.

In 1911, SKF acquired a German distributor for its products, and the following year it set up a subsidiary in Germany to manufacture rolling bearings and ball bearings at factories in Stuttgart-Degerloch and Berlin-Spandau. In 1915 SKF acquired two additional German distributors and a factory making precision instruments for aircraft applications. The same year it also established an affiliate in Switzerland that would later become SKF Switzerland AG (SKFS).

Changshan, China

SKF bearings are made in Changshan, China. This is a suburb of Shanghai and is one of the largest industrial areas in China. The location was chosen because it has good access to water, rail, road and air links. It has excellent transport links to major cities around the world and has an educated workforce with good English language skills.

The factory has been designed with environmental considerations at its heart: it uses natural ventilation wherever possible, recycles its waste products and uses solar energy to heat some of its buildings.

Changzhou, China

SKF has a large and modern bearing production facility in Changzhou, China. This factory has been producing bearings since 1983 and is one of SKF’s largest bearing plants.

The plant is equipped with the latest advanced equipment and technology, including two CNC lathes, two CNC milling machines, four boring machines, a grinding machine for precision honing of ball and roller bearings and a radial ball bearing grinding machine. The plant also has an assembly workshop with automatic torque tester machines which can test the preload force of cone bearings to ensure quality.

In addition to this facility in China, SKF has another large bearing production facility in Jinan, China which was opened in 2009.

Cheonan, South Korea

SKF bearings are manufactured in Cheonan, South Korea. SKF is one of the world’s largest bearing manufacturers with a global network of manufacturing sites, distribution centers and sales offices.

Cheonan has been an important part of SKF’s history since it was established there in 1977. Today, SKF employs over 1,400 people at its Cheonan plant.

Chomutov, Czech Republic

SKF bearings are made in the Chomutov plant in the Czech Republic. The plant is one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities for bearings in the world. It’s a world-class facility with state-of-the-art technology and processes that enable us to develop and manufacture high-end bearings in a wide range of sizes and designs.
